Educational Prairie Trail

The Educational Prairie Trail is a program that is designed to educate the public of the importance that prairie plays in the ecosystem. United Prairie Foundation accomplishes this through school programming and the development of prairie trails in public locations.

The Educational Prairie Trail is flexible and replicable, ranging from small strips of prairie plants to larger acres. Informational signs identify individual species and explain their ecological importance, making these trails perfect for parks, school campuses, and other community spaces. By blending education with conservation, the program creates opportunities for both community outreach and habitat restoration.

The trails are carefully planted to replicate native prairies and wetlands. These vibrant ecosystems attract birds, pollinators, and other wildlife, offering visitors an up-close look at prairie biodiversity and opportunities for community science initiatives. Trails also provide a location for learning about seed collection and replanting efforts, ensuring a sustainable future for local prairies and the wildlife they support.

Our Educational Prairie Trails are already making an impact in several locations, including Fargo’s Urban Plains Park, Liberty Middle School, and Sheyenne High School in West Fargo, ND. The program will be expanded in collaboration with Wildlife Forever at Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton School in Glyndon, MN, with funding from the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources.
